Arabian Nights, Beautifully Illustrated by Dulac

Stories from The Arabian Nights

London: Hodder and Stoughton, (1907). Second edition. Color plates by Dulac. Cloth over boards. Quarto. xvi, 133 pages. Very good. Some minor extremity rubs, spine mildly browned, a bit of unobtrusive staining to upper board near heel of spine. Hinges sound. Bound in rust colored cloth over boards with spine and upper board stamped in gilt and black, title page printed in red and black.

Six of the classic Middle Eastern folk tales from One Thousand and One Nights, including Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, The Fisherman and the Genie, The Story of the Princess of Deryabar, etc.

There are 50 stunning color plates by Dulac, individually mounted titled guard sheets, all of which are present. Though this is the second edition (printed just a month after the first), it is often preferred because here the numerous illustrations are placed with the appropriate text. The first edition had all illustrations other than the frontispiece (49 in total) bound together at the end of the text.

Ref. HUGHEY 16b.
