Bound in dark cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spines and upper boards, top edges gilt, black coated endpapers. Light extremity rubs, old stain to top fore corner of lower board of Vol II. Hinges sound in both volumes. Adhesion marks on both pastedowns of both volumes. Prior owner name stamped in a few places, and pencilled at top fore corner of front free endpaper of volume I.
This popular biography of Aaron Burr was originally published in 1857. The present edition expanded the work to 2 volumes and added an Appendix at the end of each to include new information and correspondence between Col. Burr and his wife and daughter--exchanges which show him in his best light.
Parton gives a balanced treatment of Burr--best known for his duel with Alexander Hamilton. A handsome set.
