Off for the Anti-Inflation Wars. Original Artwork for a Published Baltimore Sun Editorial Cartoon Featuring President Truman

[Baltimore]: [Baltimore Sun], [1947]. Original. Yardley. Single sheet. Approximately 14 3/4" x 20" Good. Some edge wear, overall light browning and soil. Appears to have a single fold crease along the short dimension.

This cartoon depicts President Harry S. Truman being suited up for a fight with the GOP Congress over his anti-inflation program in 1947. A note along bottom margin contains the publishing instructions: "4 col. Wed. A.M. Editorial Page."

Yardley has inscribed the cartoon (presumably after publication) "To Jerry Sutton / ----- / Moco Yardley," and drawn an arrow to one of the figures and written "Jerry" beside it.

There are many details showcasing Yardley's characteristic sarcasm and satire. This working Yardley cartoon shows some edits and white outs prior to being photographed for the newspaper printing process.
