Stunning first edition, first issue of this high-spot of American literature in a custom full red Morocco binding by Bayntun-Rivière. Title page printed in red and black, no Preface, and with relevant first issue point misspelling on page 21. Four pages of ads dated March 1, 1850 at rear.
Bound in rich red Morocco with gilt border rules on both boards, gilt-and red "A" at center of upper board. Spine has 6 compartments with gilt titles and "A" monograms, ornamental gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Original brown cloth covers and spine bound in at rear.
