Item #842 The Lords and The New Creatures: Poems. Jim Morrison.
The Lords and The New Creatures: Poems
The Only Book of Jim Morrison's Poetry Published During His Lifetime

The Lords and The New Creatures: Poems

New York: Simon and Schuster, (1970). First printing. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. 141 pages. Near fine in a fine dust jacket. Bound in purple paper over boards with purple cloth spine, purple endpapers, purple topstain. Spine and upper board stamped in gilt and purple foil. Faint prior gift inscription on front pastedown, nearly invisible due to ink closely matching the color of the endpaper. Jacket has a few light surface rubs and about a 2" fold crease at top edge of front flap. Clean and bright overall.

Jim Morrison's only book published during his lifetime. From the jacket, Morrison "sees and speaks of contemporary America--the cities, the drug scene, the movies, the money hustle, the old hang-ups and new freedoms in love." The verses herein had appeared as two limited edition portfolios in 1969.

Morrison had graduated from UCLA with bachelor's degree in film, and according to the somewhat wistful jacket bio the lead singer, composer, and lyricist for The Doors yet hoped to be a film director. Alas, he died in Paris in 1971 at age 27.
