The Lawson History of the America's Cup: A Record of Fifty Years

Boston: Privately Printed, 1902. Limited edition. Color and black & white plates. Original cloth over boards. Folio. 402 pages. Very good. Bound in coarse white cloth over boards with elaborate gilt-stamped scene on upper board, gilt medallion on lower board, gilt ornaments on spine, and top edge gilt. Leather spine label titled in gilt. Some light foxing to binding, spine label has some shallow chips to right side. Some minor spots of wear to binding.

Detailed, nicely illustrated, and well documented history of the origin and early races in the America's Cup yacht racing event. Some hostility to the New York Yacht Club is evident here.

A beautiful volume, with many fine illustrations protected by captioned tissue guards. Published for private distribution only, in an edition of 3,000 copies of which this is #42.

See TOY #1621; MORRIS & HOWLAND p. 138.
