Sir Eduardo Paolozzi was a native of Scotland, born of Italian immigrants. He studied art at the Edinburgh College of Art and Slade School of Fine Art. He was a founder of Pop Art, and his seminal 1947 collage "I was a Rich Man's Plaything" is considered the first standard bearer of that movement.
This outstanding piece was commissioned by Studio International as a 1971 magazine cover and was originally titled "Pop Art Redefined." Its elements reference the work of Paolozzi's more famous Pop heirs such as Andy Warhol, Ed Ruscha, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein and others.
This is copy #926 of an edition of 1000, which Sir Paolozzi has boldly signed in pencil at lower margin.
