Eat, Drink and be Merry in Maryland: An Anthology from a Great Tradition

Eat, Drink and be Merry in Maryland: An Anthology from a Great Tradition

New York: G. P. Putnam's Sons, (1932). First edition. Drawings by Edwin Tunis. Half leather. Octavo. xxiv, 326 pages. Near fine. Bound in burgundy cloth over boards with leather spine and fore corners, gilt-stamped spine titles, five raised bands, burgundy cloth endpapers, top edge gilt. A few minor extremity rubs.

The classic collection of old Maryland recipes for everything from oysters, crabs, terrapin and fowl, to breads, cakes, puddings, beverages and desserts. Each of the 500 plus recipes in Frederick Stieff's collection was collected from its source and not lifted from any prior publication--unless that publication was over 100 years old. Well executed drawings by Edwin Tunis, though some are racially insensitive by today's standards. PRATT - EASTERN SHORE #930a.
