A beautiful copy of Rand's most important book, in original dust jacket. The plot features a dystopian United States which has become a welfare state. The most productive and creative scientists, industrialists, and artists withdraw themselves to a mountain hideaway to establish their own society based upon a free economy. Rand used this novel to lay out the core tenets of her philosophy of objectivism.

First printing of the first edition, with correct date code at lower fore corner of front flap of dust jacket, publisher's name and address at bottom of rear jacket flap.
