Groundbreaking work on labor efficiency. Taylor was the first to lay down principles of Scientific Management, which sought to increase industrial efficiency by studying and standardizing the movements of workers and machines. He famously systematized "piece-work," or payment by results. See Printing and the Mind of Man #591.
