INSCRIBED and SIGNED by Jackson on front pastedown. Algernon B. Jackson was an African American physician, surgeon, columnist and author. This is his fascinating account of the 1928 automobile tour he and his wife took from Washington, DC through the segregated South. This uncommon book is filled with the Jacksons' personal observations and anecdotes, providing an important primary source.

Dr. Jackson was in the South speaking at African American community centers and public schools about health and disease prevention on behalf of the National Negro Health Movement, established by his close friend Booker T. Washington. Dr. Jackson was also a founding member of the oldest African American fraternity, Sigma Pi Phi.
