A Farewell to Arms

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1929. First Edition. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. [i-x], [1-2], 3-355, [356-358] pages.

Hemingway's classic novel of a love affair between an English nurse and an American expatriate ambulance driver in the Italian Campaign in World War I.

The book is from the second or third issue per Grissom, with disclaimer to verso of dedication page. The iconic dust jacket by Cleo Damianakes (signed "Cleon") is of the first issue, with "Katharine Barclay" for "Catharine Barkley" on front flap.

A lovely copy of this essential Hemingway title.

Ref. GRISSOM A.8.1.b or c; HANNEMAN 8A.

Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Bound in black cloth over boards with black titles to gold title labels on spine and upper board. Neat prior owner name on front free endpaper. Shallow bumps along spine ends and at a few fore corner tips, faint toning to endpapers. Jacket has shallow edge chips, short tears, and a bit of mild browning to spine, rear panel, and fore edge folds. A bright, handsome copy overall.
