New York: Random House, (1957) [1967]. Tenth Anniversary Limited Edition. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. [viii], 1168, [3] pages.

Tenth Anniversary edition of Rand's most important book, with original clear acetate dust jacket and slipcase. This is copy #1,138 of 2,000 and is signed by Ayn Rand on the limitation page preceding the title page. This special edition was the ninth printing of the book overall, and is so stated on the copyright page.

The plot features a dystopian United States which has become a welfare state. The most productive and creative scientists, industrialists, and artists withdraw themselves to a mountain hideaway to establish their own society based upon a free economy. Rand used this novel to lay out the core tenets of her philosophy of objectivism.

Ref. PERINN A4d.

Near fine in a good jacket and very good slipcase. Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with dark gray endpapers, and blue topstain. Upper board has Rand's initials stamped in gilt, spine is titled in gilt, with a blue title block bordered in gilt rule. Prior owner name at top edge of front pastedown. Book itself shows no significant wear. Original clear unprinted acetate jacket has a tear across heel of spine and an intersecting tear along bottom 2 1/2" of lower joint fold. We have overlaid a custom clear Mylar jacket that discreetly protects the original acetate. Original slipcase has a few rubs and small chips around the mouth, a few lightly faded areas, but remains sound. Overall a very nice copy of this uncommon edition, retaining the originally issued clear jacket and slipcase.
