The Unsettling of America: Culture & Agriculture (Signed)
San Francisco: Sierra Club Books, 1977. First Edition. Hardcover. Tall octavo. xii, 228 pages.
Berry's brilliant examination of the evolution of American farming in the context of culture and ecology. He challenges the "get big or get out" philosophy that has dramatically changed farming and unsettled its communities. Argues that in turning the time-hallowed act of food production into a corporate exercise in maximum production, we have become estranged from the land.
Inscribed and signed by Berry on front free endpaper thusly: "Signed for Jim / With the good wishes / of a fellow farmer. / Wendell Berry"
