The Club - Membership Roster from Gentlemen's Private Club in Springfield 1873-1898
[Springfield]: [The Club], [1899]. Single sheet, 9 3/8" x 7 1/2", folded in half.
Membership roster of what appears—based on size, longevity of tenure, and the professional character of its members—to have been a small, invitation‑only Springfield men’s social or discussion club, active from its founding in 1873 through 1898. The roster includes names from the city’s professional and mercantile class, among them attorney Edward S. Bradford, businessman Charles Marsh, industrialist David Clark, and long‑serving member Gideon Wells.
Inside gives an interesting graphic illustration of individual membership durations, while back cover gives a 'List of "The Club" from its Organization to Date' as of June 29, 1898. This section gives the dates of death for eight members who had died since the founding of "The Club" in 1873.
A handsome and unusually informative survival of 19th century Springfield social history, almost certainly printed in a very small run for internal circulation.
Two old horizontal creases as if folded to fit a vest pocket, otherwise fine.
