A detailed and handsomely illustrated history of the origins and early contests of the America’s Cup, written with some hostility toward the New York Yacht Club, which at the time, as custodians of the America's Cup, sought to exclude Cup defenders who were not NYYC members.

A beautiful volume, with many fine illustrations protected by captioned tissue guards. Published for private distribution only, in an edition of 3,000 copies of which this is #2728.

Re-bound in coarse white cloth over boards with elaborate gilt-stamped scene from original binding inset on upper board, original leather spine label titled in gilt, and other original binding elements retained. Top edge gilt. Some faint foxing to upper board, spine label has a tiny chip to right edge, and interior text leaves have occasional mild toning. Binding and hinges remain sturdy A near fine copy.
