Cimarron
Garden City: Doubleday, Doran and Company, Inc., 1930. First Edition. Dust jacket and endpapers designed by Howard Willard. Original cloth over boards. Octavo. [i-viii], ix-x,[xi-xii, [1]-388 pages.
Stunning first edition of Ferber’s frontier epic of the Oklahoma land rush—ambition, grit, and the making of a boomtown on raw prairie. It was the basis for the 1931 film of the same name that won the Academy Award for Best Picture--the first Western to that category and the only one to win it until 1990.
An exceptionally nice copy of book and dust jacket, housed in and elegant custom slipcase with leather spine, gilt-stamped spine titles, and integral ribbon pull.
Fine in a fine dust jacket. Bound in gray cloth over boards with spine and upper board titled in dark brown, decorated endpapers, and dark brown topstain. Shallow bumping to spine ends. Jacket a few light rubs, some very light soiling, and tiny closed tear at top edge of rear panel. Original jacket price remains intact. A beautiful copy.
