Paul Laurence Dunbar, born in 1872 to freed slaves, was an early influential African American poet, novelist, and playwright. Much of his popular work was written in the Negro dialect of the antebellum South, as this striking book is. Illustrated with photographs by the Leigh Richmond Miner and with decorative binding and typographical ornaments by Will Jenkins. A striking first edition of this Dunbar title.
