Arkham House Collection of Weird Sea Stories by William Hope Hodgson

Deep Waters

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1967. First American edition, one of 2,500 copies. Cloth over boards. Octavo. xii, 639 pages.

A collection of that includes all of William Hope Hodgson's shorter macabre tales of the sea.

Hodgson was killed in World War I and his excellent work in fantastic fiction, horror, and science fiction was temporarily forgotten following his death. Fortunately, the diligent efforts of a few anthologists and collectors in the 1930s and 1940s secured his position in the genre of weird fiction. H. P. Lovecraft revised his essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature" to include Hodgson after being made aware of his work.

A beautiful copy of this Arkham House title. Dust jacket by Frank Utpatel.

Ref. JOSHI.

Fine in a fine dust jacket. Bound in black cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine. A few tiny bumps to board fore corners, slight browning along inner margins of endpapers. Jacket has a few mild wrinkles. A bright and remarkably sharp copy.
