Kipling's classic collection of stories set in India, featuring the young boy Mowgli and a cast of mostly animal characters that illustrate human nature.

A beautiful set of both books in the desirable first states of their first editions. 'The Jungle Book,' has the first state imprint "R. & R. Clark, Edinburgh" on p. 212. 'The Second Jungle Book' has the first state indicators on p. 139--the abrupt end to the text of "The King's Ankus" at line 8 and the tailpiece of the ankus.

Both books bound in navy blue cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spines and upper boards, all edges gilt, and dark green coated endpapers. 'The Jungle Book' has a slight lean to the spine, minor extremity rubs, a faint crack along inner margin of front endpapers, a bookseller tag and a neat prior owner bookplate on front pastedown. A contemporaneous review is tipped to rear free endpaper. 'The Second Jungle Book' is in fine condition with just a few minor rubs to extremities. No prior ownership marks. A beautiful set already appropriately housed in a custom box with chemises.
