Praised by Pynchon, the Revisionist Western that Cleared the Way for McCarthy and Proulx

Warlock

New York: The Viking Press, 1958. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. viii, 471 pages.

Hall reimagines the mythos of Tombstone and the O.K. Corral, exposing the contested history beneath the Earp legend.

A landmark of American fiction that helped inaugurate the modern revisionist Western. After this book, serious critics and writers could no longer treat the Western as a simple morality tale where justice was unambiguous.
