Practical Fly-Fishing Founded on Nature

London: Methuen and Co., 1893. Limited Edition, #29 of 56 copies. Hardcover. Octavo. xxii, [2], 1-54, [2] pages + [1]-20 page publisher catalogue.

Lovely 1893 limited edition of the work Beever originally published in 1849 under his pseudonym "Arundo.' Beever was an avid and observant Lake District angler who was an early practitioner of imitating the true forms and behaviors of aquatic insects with artificial flies. This charming and uncommon manual is a classic in the evolution of fly-fishing technique.

This edition includes a memoir of author John Beever by W. G. Collingwood and an Appendix of additional notes and chapter on char fishing by Arthur Severn, Jr. and Agnew Ruskin Severn. This is copy #29 of just 59 copies in this edition, printed on Dutch handmade paper and signed by the publisher. Fine binding by Blackwell.

This copy bears the piscatorial bookplate, accession note, and signature of Daniel B. Fearing of Newport, Rhode Island—distinguished Grolier Club member and one of the foremost American collectors of angling books.
