Mosses form an Old Manse
New York: Wiley and Putnam, 1846. First Edition. Contemporaneous half leather over marbled boards. Octavo. i[v], [1]-207 [208]; [iv], [1]-211 [212] pages.
A handsome copy of the first edition of Hawthorne's fabulous story collection written while he resided in Emerson's property--the Old Manse--in Concord, Massachusetts. This is the first appearance of both 'Young Goodman Brown' and 'Rappaccini's Daughter' in book form. Two of Hawthorne's finest stories.
Ref. CLARK A15.1.a1 (see note about combined volume issue).
Near fine condition. Bound in marbled paper over boards with leather spine and fore corners, with a few rubs to extremities. Otherwise quite lovely. Very fitting for a book of this age and stature.
