Atlas Shrugged

New York: Random House, (1957). First printing. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. [viii], 1168, [3] pages.

A nice copy of Rand's most important book, in the original dust jacket. The plot features a dystopian United States which has become a welfare state. The most productive and creative scientists, industrialists, and artists withdraw themselves to a mountain hideaway to establish their own society based upon a free economy. Rand used this novel to lay out the core tenets of her philosophy of objectivism.

True first printing of the first edition, with correct jacket price intact, correct date code at lower fore corner of front flap of dust jacket, and publisher's name and address at bottom of rear jacket flap.

Ref. PERINN A4.

Bound in green cloth over boards with beige endpapers and blue topstain. Binding is bright and clean but for a bit of fraying to cloth at bottom edges of boards. Jacket is particularly bright and free of wear but for a strip of browning along edge of both flaps where apparently it was previously taped to the endpapers (which likewise have corresponding strip of browning). Tape removal was apparently expertly and cleanly done, leaving only the staining in its wake (no adhesive). Overall, a very bright and attractive copy.
