This is just the second shooting book published in America and the first comprehensive sporting manual. Published anonymously but attributed to one Dr. Jesse Y. Kester, the work covers game birds and waterfowl in the Delaware Valley around Philadelphia, shooting on the wing, proper maintenance of firearms, the training and use of hunting dogs, and much more. Includes information on the reliability of DuPont black powder, reflecting the prominence of the manufacturer in the region by the 1820s.

A lovely copy of the second issue, with "ribbon" spelled correctly on page 235.

Bound in marbled paper over boards with leather spine and fore corners, raised bands, gilt-titled black leather spine label. Heraldic bookplate on front pastedown. Light rubs to extremities, some abrasions to marbled boards, minor toning inside, else fine. Housed in two-piece marbled paper lined slipcase with spine cover, with gilt-titled spine label. A very handsome book and case.
