Dr. Raper was the chief of research and investigation for the Southern Commission on the Study of Lynching, founded in 1930. This is his detailed report on twenty lynchings across the South in the year 1930, with details of the victim's alleged crime, the formation of the mob, and police behavior. Includes analysis of historic and economic conditions of the surrounding communities, as well as existing race relations, attitudes among local leaders, and opinions from the pulpit and the press.
Very good with some minor extremity wear. Prior ownership inscription on front pastedown, two leaves inside somewhat browned from an old newspaper clipping. Neatly repaired 3" split to top of front endpapers along hinge. Clean and sound overall.
