The Dole Map of the Hawaiian Islands, U. S. A.: Being a descriptive portrayal of the history, transportation, industries and geography of the Territory of Hawaii, U. S. A.
San Francisco and Honolulu: Hawaiian Pineapple Co., Ltd., 1937. Color pictorial map. Single sheet, 18 1/2" x 36 5/8"
This delightful, colorful, and iconic 1937 pictorial map of Hawaii's eight main islands whimsically depicts the unique characteristics of each. It was commissioned by James Dole's Hawaiian Pineapple Company, and executed beautifully by California artist Parker Edwards. In addition to the details of people and activities on the islands, the other areas of the map are dotted with various historically relevant boats, ships, and airplanes. Top and bottom edges of the map are bordered with flowers and fish from Hawaii, with each identified.
This stunning example of this uncommon map comes with its original mailing tube with branded address label.
Not in HORNSBY.
Loosely shrink-wrapped to acid free foam board. There is a cleanly closed 1 1/4" tear at left margin, extending slightly and rather inconspicuously into image. A few slight spots in margins, otherwise clean and vibrant. An excellent copy of this scarce pictorial map.
