First publication of this remarkable memoir by probably the most famous guide in the golden age of African safaris. Philip Percival went to Africa in 1905 to join his older brother, A. Blayney Percival, who was already working as a safari guide. Through the course of his career, the younger Percival's client list included the likes of Theodore Roosevelt, George Eastman, Martin and Osa Johnson, Ernest Hemingway, and the Vanderbilts. Hemingway is said to have modelled Robert Wilson--the guide in his story "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber"--after Philip Percival.
Percival completed the manuscript for this book in 1961 but it was never published until this limited edition. The book is profusely illustrated with incredible historic big game hunting photographs, courtesy of the Percival family. This copy is signed by the author's grandson, Philip Percival, on limitation page.
Bound in red paper covered boards with gilt-stamped spine. No significant wear to book or jacket. This copy is unnumbered, but designated "Display Copy" in a neat four line notation on front free endpaper. "Display copy also noted on limitation page.
