Americans, Stop Thinking Like Communists
[Belmont and San Marino]: [The John Birch Society], 1980. Two black and white photographic illustrations. Single sheet, folded. 8 pages.
In an offprint from the Congressional Record, Larry McDonald, Democrat congressman from Georgia, presents the remarks made by Mrs. Julia Brown before the John Birch Society on June 9, 1980. Mrs. Brown was an African American and former-Communist-turned-FBI-informant who opposed the establishment of the Federal holiday honoring Martin Luther King. She testifies that King had close ties to the Communist Party, based on her knowledge as a member. A 1957 photograph of King at Highlander Folk School, an alleged Communist training school in Tennessee, is reprinted herein.
Mrs. Brown's anti-King remarks were given in testimony before Congress opposing the establishment of the Federal holiday and are included herein, along with other anti-Communist appeals.
Congressman Larry McDonald became chairman of the John Birch Society in 1983. He was killed a few months later aboard Korean Air Lines Flight 007 when Soviet interceptors shot down the passenger plane, giving rise to assassination conspiracy theories.
