New York: The Limited Editions Club, 1945. Limited Edition, #751 of 1500. Typography and decoration by Bruce Rogers. Hardcovers. Quartos. xvi, 320 and [2], 321-633 pages.
A beautiful edition of the Federalist Papers designed by pioneering book designer, Bruce Rogers, who has signed this edition on the limitation page in volume II.
These essays were written by Hamilton, Madison, and Jay under the collective pseudonym "Publius," advocating the ratification of the U. S. Constitution. They were originally published between 1787 and 1788 and played a crucial role in shaping political thought toward a stronger federal government. They remain important today and provide a vital reference for understanding the intentions of the Founders.
A lovely set of this timeless American political classic.
Two volumes bound in decorated paper over boards with dark blue cloth spines, gilt spine titles, and top edges gilt. Books show no significant wear, while slipcase has rubs, shallow chips, and some splitting along joints. Overall, fine in a very good slipcase.
