Constitutional Government in the United States

New York: The Columbia University Press, 1908. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. viii, 236, [advertising leaf] pages.

Woodrow Wilson was a political science professor and President of Princeton University when he wrote this influential work on the interpretation of the U. S. Constitutional as it relates to the structure of the government. He challenges the traditional checks and balances system, arguing that the government should function with more unity among its branches rather than a rigid structure of separated powers. He argues for the Presidency to be the central force in American politics, with the capacity to lead beyond the limitations of Congressional gridlock.

Wilson would be elected President of the United States just four years later.

Bound in maroon cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and upper board, top edge gilt. Prior owner name neatly penned on front pastedown. Slight rubs along joints and at extremities, shallow bumps to extremities, 3/8" mildly faded spot to upper board, some minor discoloration to spine, and a few light spots on a couple of early leaves. Binding sound, gilt remains bright. Very good overall. Presents nicely in a custom fitted 4 mil Mylar cover.
