Karl Marx' 'Capital' in Lithographs

New York: Ray Long & Richard R. Smith, (1934). First Edition. Frontispiece plus 60 full page lithographs. Burlap over boards. Quarto. [v], 60 pages, 60 lithographs.

A striking presentation of extracts from Marx's major work, with 60 illustrations by Gellert accompanying topics such as machinery, the working day, primary accumulation, surplus value, large-scale industry, and ground rent. The additional frontispiece lithograph is a portrait of Marx.

Gellert was a Hungarian-American artist and Communist Party member who did much work for the cause. In the Foreword to this volume, Gellert attacks President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his New Deal National Recovery Administration (N.R.A.) for making "slaves of all workers with the aid of strike proof 'labor unions,' after the pattern of Mussolini."

Ref. SEIDMAN G75.

Bound in coarsely woven brown cloth over boards with spine and upper board titled in black, endpapers illustrated in red. Minor extremity bumps, a 1/2" split to cloth at bottom edge of upper joint, mild browning along innter hinges, and a few minor stains to exterior, else near fine. A lovely copy with the illustrated endpapers.
