Contains Hunter S. Thompson's "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved," which is widely considered the first published piece of "Gonzo journalism." This article is also the beginning of the legendary relationship between HST and illustrator Ralph Steadman.

Scanlan's was a short-lived (8 issues published) muckraking journal edited by Warren Hinckle III and Sidney Zion. This issue also contains many other daring features, including step-by-step instructions on counterfeiting credit cards (with photographs) and a call for the impeachment of Richard Nixon two years before anyone outside of Washington, DC had even heard of Watergate.

Fine condition with a hint of browning along saddle-stapled spine.
