The Lords and The New Creatures: Poems
New York: Simon and Schuster, (1970). First printing. Cloth hardcover. Octavo. 141 pages.
Jim Morrison's only book published during his lifetime. From the jacket, Morrison "sees and speaks of contemporary America--the cities, the drug scene, the movies, the money hustle, the old hang-ups and new freedoms in love." The verses herein had appeared as two limited edition portfolios in 1969.
Morrison had graduated from UCLA with bachelor's degree in film, and according to the somewhat wistful jacket bio the lead singer, composer, and lyricist for The Doors yet hoped to be a film director. Alas, he died in Paris the following year at age 27.
Very good in a very good dust jacket. Bound in purple paper over boards with purple cloth spine, purple endpapers, purple topstain. Spine and upper board stamped in gilt and purple foil. Minor extremity bumps and light rubs, occasional foxing and light rippling inside. Jacket has a few shallow edge chips, short closed tears, and minor extremity rubs. Jacket is not price-clipped.
