A collection of eight articles by Mahan on various aspects of America's naval position in terms of strategy and geography, which appeared in various magazines between 1890 and 1897. One of the articles from 1893 identifies Hawaii as the future of sea power for the United States. A fine collection of Mahan's thought, published on the eve of the Spanish-American War.

Military historian and collector, Alexander McCook Craighead, has pencilled his name at top verso of front free endpaper.

Bound in dark blue cloth over boards with blue-black coated endpapers, gilt-stamped spine titles, top edge gilt, and a silhouette of battleship USS Iowa in gilt on upper board. Minor extremity wear, rear endpaper lightly cracked along inner hinge, light stain to upper board. Overall a handsome, very good copy.
