The Bellevue Hospital Nomenclature of Diseases and Conditions, with Rules for the Recording and Filing of Histories

New York: Clarence S. Nathan, Inc., 1922. Cloth over flexible boards. Sixteenmo. 304 pages.

The Bellevue Nomenclature was originally created in 1903, and was an early attempt at standardizing the classification of diseases and injuries to improve the accuracy of medical records.

Importantly, the Nomenclature included a section on “Diseases of the Mind,” which played a crucial role in standardizing the terminology and diagnostic criteria for mental health disorders, laying the groundwork for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).

An uncommon example of this important step in medical classification and standardization, which influenced both the ICD and the DSM.

Bound in deep burgundy cloth over flexible boards. Titling to upper board has darkened. Small dent to front cover which impacts the first few leaves. Very good overall.
