The Unknown War: The Eastern Front
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1931. First U. S. Edition. Frontispiece portrait, black and white plates, diagrams, maps. Original cloth over boards. xviii, 387 pages.
Churchill's masterful account of the lesser-known but broadly impactful actions in the Eastern theatre of World War I, as Russia contended with both Austria and Germany. Churchill notes that Western readers will find the narrative of these events necessary to a full understanding. Indeed, "...our own fortunes were powerfully swayed by all that happened in the East, and it is there that we must look for the explanation of many strange and sorry turns in our fortunes."
