Arkham House Omnibus of Four Supernatural Novels by William Hope Hodgson

The House on the Borderland, and Other Novels

Sauk City: Arkham House, 1946. First American edition, one of 3,000 copies. Cloth over boards. Octavo. xii, 639 pages.

A collection of four complete novels exploring cosmic and supernatural themes, by William Hope Hodgson. Hodgson was killed in World War I and his excellent work in fantastic fiction, horror, and science fiction was temporarily forgotten following his death. Fortunately, the diligent efforts of a few anthologists and collectors in the 1930s and 1940s secured his position in the genre of weird fiction. H. P. Lovecraft revised his essay "Supernatural Horror in Literature" to include Hodgson after being made aware of his work.

A beautiful copy of this Arkham House omnibus. Includes an introduction by H. C. Koenig and a bibliography of Hodgson's books compiled by A. Langley Searles. Dust jacket by Hannes Bok--the first four-color jacket under the Arkham House imprint.

Ref. JOSHI 16.

Fine in a fine dust jacket. Bound in black cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine. A few tiny bumps to board fore corners, slight browning along inner margins of endpapers. Jacket has a few mild wrinkles. A bright and remarkably sharp copy.
