Verses on the Wreck of the Titanic

[Boston?]: (S.n.), (1912). Broadside. 9 3/8" x 4 3/4"

Rare broadside poem on the sinking of the H.M.S. Titanic in 1912. The poem describes the tragedy fairly accurately, to wit: "Twas a head on blow, and down below, The 'Unsinkable' ocean's pride, Scraped along the ledge, the icy wedge, Made a rent along her side..."

Belyea was known as the "boy poet" in New England by age 16, but this is the only surviving example of his work that we can locate.

Belyea's family had moved from New Brunswick, Canada to Boston when he was an infant. He began writing verses and ballads at a young age. In the early 1900s he worked with Effie Lorraine as a magic act specializing in escapes, fancying themselves as rivals to Houdini.

Rare piece of Titanic memorabilia. OCLC locates just 2 copies--only 1 with this variant title.

A few faint corner creases, some mild age toning. Fine condition overall.
