The Old Man and the Sea

London: Jonathan Cape, (1952). First British Edition. Octavo. Cloth over boards.

The fine piece of writing that finally won Hemingway a major literary prize--the Pulitzer in 1953. This title was specifically mentioned by Swedish Academy in awarding Hemingway the Nobel Prize in Literature the following year.

The first British edition, with the striking dust jacket art by Hans Tisdall. Copies in collectable condition are getting tougher to find.

Ref. HANNEMAN A45A.

Very good in a very good dust jacket. Prior owner name neatly penned to front free endpaper, old bookseller label at bottom inner margin of front free endpaper. A few very slight extremity rubs to binding and some light scattered foxing to endpapers, else fine. Jacket has a few minor extremity rubs, shallow edge chips, and a hint of browning to spine--less than often seen. Overall a very handsome and bright copy of this stunning first edition.
