Adventure Unlimited: A Diviner Travels the World
London: Neville Spearman, (1958). First Edition. Black and white photographic plates, drawings. Hardcover. Octavo. x, 11-208 pages.
Remarkable memoir of a woman and her apparent psychic abilities in finding water, oil, gold, and other buried minerals. She travelled the world and was employed by governments to locate water in drought-stricken areas in the 1930s.
Penrose developed her gift to such a degree that she could divine water remotely from a map. She further experimented with diving the locations of disease in the bodies of the sick. She stopped short of working with police to locate criminals, due to concerns for her own safety.
A striking first edition of this fascinating woman's memoir, scarce in any edition.
Good in a very good dust jacket. Bump to heel of spine that has impacted the first 40 or 50 pages with a faint wrinkle in lower margin. Other minor extremity wear to binding. Fore edge of textblock stamped "cancelled." Illustrated dust jacket has a small chip at top edge of front panel, scattered rubbed wrinkles at extremities, and a hint of fading to spine. Overall a very attractive copy.
