Fascinating report on various proposed ship canals and railroad routes across the isthmuses of Central America. The various advantages, disadvantages, and particular complications of various routes are discussed in the 37-page report. The approximate route of the future Panama Canal was viewed favorably.
An Appendix presents estimates of economic value to various countries of connecting the oceans as proposed. Includes an impressive bibliography of works consulted on the topic. The 14 large maps conclude the volume, one of which is color-tinted.
Bound in brown pebbled cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine titles. Moderate fading to spine and board edges. Prior owner name on card pasted to front pastedown with some offsetting to front free endpaper. Hinges sound. Maps in very good condition with occasional light foxing, and some tears showing at attachments but not affecting content. Very good overall. In custom-cut Mylar jacket.
