A Speech Before the Parliament of England on 11th November 1942
Kingsport: Kingsport Press, 1943. Limited edition, one of 400 copies, signed by designer and typographer, Richard Ellis. Softbound. Octavo. 32 pages.
Churchill's speech to Parliament on the heels of the defeat of Gen. Rommel at El Alamein. The Prime Minister gives a thorough and frank assessment of the war at this point, acknowledging the victory in North Africa but tempering it with the remaining work to be done. In closing, Churchill quotes Walt Whitman, "It is provided in the essence of things that from any fruition of success...shall come forth something to make a greater struggle necessary."
This handsome edition was designed and set in type by Richard Ellis at the Kingsport Press, and is signed by him in shaky hand at the colophon. Printed for private distribution.
Fine condition. Saddle stapled binding stitched to paler blue card covers. One tiny bump at head of spine.
