A Chart of Manhattan

New York: The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, 1937. Pictorial map. Single sheet. 23" x 9"

George Annand's famous pictorial map of Manhattan, produced for the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel after their move to Park Avenue. This delightful example of Annand's skilled work covers the entire borough of Manhattan, depicting principal sights, shopping districts, churches, clubs, and more.

This variation of the map includes a small onlay label denoting the trans-Atlantic steamship piers, has some references to the upcoming World's Fair, and shows the three tunnels connecting Manhattan with New Jersey and Queens. The Midtown Hudson Tunnel had not yet been renamed the Lincoln Tunnel, and the Queens Midtown Tunnel is noted as under construction.

Additional information and illustrations are printed on the opposite of the sheet, which was folded into a brochure. A wonderful relic of 1930s New York and a sought-after example from the heyday of pictorial maps.

Ref. HORNSBY 53.

Near fine, with original fold creases.
