Children of DUNE

New York: Berkley Publishing Corporation Distributed by G. P. Putnam's Sons, (1976). First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Octavo. 444 pages. Very good in a very good dust jacket. Bound in brick-colored cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine titles. Shallow bumps to spine ends, small pink stain at bottom edge of front free endpaper, minor extremity wear. Jacket has shallow chips at spine ends, a 1/2" closed tear at top of upper joint fold with an associated crease into front panel, a hole near heel of spine about the size of a watermelon seed, and other minor edge rubs and shallow wear. Jacket spine remains bright and unfaded. A very nice copy overall.

This was intended to be the transcendent concluding volume in Herbert's "DUNE" series, which is described as a trilogy on the dust jacket. "Children of DUNE" melds the themes of ecology and adventure from "DUNE" with the political intrigue of its sequel, "DUNE Messiah."

"Children of DUNE" was the first hardcover bestseller in the science fiction genre and was nominated for the Hugo Award in 1977. This is the true first printing of the first edition. We don't play games with descriptions like "First edition, [x later] printing."
