Fitzroy Maclean quit the British Diplomatic Service to join the army at the start of World War II. His exciting memoir recounts his daring and often covert adventures in Soviet Central Asia, commando raids behind enemy lines in Western Desert campaign, and his command of the Maclean Mission fighting alongside Tito and the Yugoslav Partisans against the Nazis. It is believed that Maclean influenced Ian Fleming's James Bond.
