Bound in black cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine titling and gray endpapers. Shallow bump at top fore corner tip of each board. Jacket has a hint of browning to spine, a cleanly closed 1/2" tear at bottom edge of front panel, and a few tiny extremity rubs. Clean and crisp copy overall.

Short horror novel concerning a hideous stone idol brought from China to archaeological department of the Manhattan Museum of Fine Arts. This story is considered part of the Cthulhu Mythos.

The novel incorporates, nearly verbatim and with permission, a dream of H. P. Lovecraft which he shared with Long by letter. This novel was originally serialized in Weird Tales in 1931. Published here for the first time in book form in an edition of just under 2,000 copies.
