Oklahoma the Mecca for Men of Mystery. John Wilkes Booth, Escape and Wanderings Until Final Ending of the Trail by Suicide at Enid, Oklahoma, January 12, 1903
[Oklahoma City]: (S.n.), [1922]. Illustrations from photographs and drawings. Printed wrappers. Duodecimo. [vi], 142 pages.
Scarce book on John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln assassination. Filled with obscure anecdotes and information supporting the idea, popularized by Finis Bates, that Booth eluded capture in 1865 and lived until 1903 when he committed suicide in Oklahoma as one John St. Helen.
Cover title identifies this as "Travelers Series Number Seven," and carries the copyright information. Numerous illustrations throughout. Much of this content apparently appeared previously in a publication of the Oklahoma Historical Society called "Historia."
A nice copy of this uncommon title, and very difficult to find in such nice condition.
Ref. MONAGHAN 2561; HOWES C102; SIX GUNS 368; HOUMES p. 14.
Bound in printed card covers over side-stapled binding. Minor extremity rubs, light wrinkles, and mild age toning inside. Fine condition overall.
