First American Appearance of Churchill's "Painting as a Pastime"

Amid These Storms: Thoughts and Adventures

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1932. First U.S. printing. Black and white frontispiece portrait, drawings. Cloth over boards. Octavo. 320 pages. Bound in red cloth over boards with gilt-stamped spine and upper board titles. Bump to lower fore corner of upper board, slight dulling to gilt spine titling. Jacket has minor edge wear, a few rubbed wrinkles, and shallow edge chips, and the usual sunning to spine. Near fine in a very good+ dust jacket. Better than usually seen.

An intra-war collection of Churchill's essays on a wide variety of topics, from U-boats to espionage, from politics to the effects of modern life.

This volume is bibliographically important as well, being the first American appearance of Churchill's wonderful essay on the importance of hobbies, "Painting as a Pastime."

A surprisingly uncommon Churchill first edition, particularly in the dust jacket.
