Beowulf: The Monsters and the Critics
London: Oxford University Press, (1963). Wrappers.
J. R. R. Tolkien's 1936 essay on the old English epic poem. He argues that the weight of modern scholarship on Beowulf nearly obscures the poem itself.
This essay was originally given as the Sir Israel Gollancz Memorial Lecture before the British Academy in 1936. This edition was lithographically produced from sheets of the first edition.
Very good. Tan printed covers, sewn binding. A few mild wrinkles to covers.
